One of the things I really especially love to do while shooting is to use my long lens, a Tamron 200-400mm and get in close to areas that the human eye otherwise wouldn’t really see. Bolt it on my tripod, zoom out to 400mm and just study the landscape up close and personal, looking for interesting subject matter and framing the scene in the viewfinder before hitting the shutter.Such is the case with how this photo was taken. While at Lily Lake in Colorado for our Fall photo meetup, I noticed some really nice color on the shore line…the way the light seemed to be hitting this distant area grabbed my attention, so I decided to use my 400 and get in their kind of close to have a closer look. I really wanted that red tree bad…I loved how it contrasted so nice against the reflected water and yellow Aspen trees. Speaking of the water, it reminds me of a painting…that mix of color and how it almost all looks like brush strokes.
